“If I don’t have you ever, I really feel like I lose myself. I grow to be another person,” a lady tells her sister in a brand new trailer for “You Resemble Me.” Described by writer-director Dina Amer as an exploration of “the unexamined roots of trauma” that offers with “survival and belonging,” the award-winning drama tells the story of two sisters dwelling on the outskirts of Paris.
Finally, the siblings are torn aside, and the eldest, Hasna (Mouna Soualem), is left struggling to make sense of her identification. “I can change who I’m to get love. It’s my superpower,” she explains. “You don’t know all the ladies I’ve been.”
“I would like the viewers to embody the humanity of a lady we dismiss as a monster and to expertise what it feels prefer to be in her pores and skin. I would like them to see themselves within the villain and perceive that we’re complicit in creating cycles of violence inside our society,” Amer instructed us. “I would like the viewer to mirror on their very own dissociative conduct, the numerous faces we maintain and interchange relying on our environment and, at sure moments, simply to really feel liked and accepted.”
Set to open in NYC November 4 and LA November 11 with a nationwide rollout to comply with, “You Resemble Me” marks Amer’s directorial debut. It made its world premiere within the Venice Days part of Venice Movie Pageant.
