Sundance Film Festival: London will host the U.K. premiere of “Good Luck to You, Leo Grande,” a dramedy about a woman’s sexual awakening starring one of England’s most beloved talents, Emma Thompson. The festival will be launched by the Sophie Hyde-directed movie, which runs from June 9-12.
Sundance London has announced 12 Sundance Film Festival films that will screen. Seven of these features are co-directed or directed entirely by women. That’s a total of 58 percent. Besides “Leo Grande,” other women-helmed offerings include “Honk For Jesus. Save Your Soul,” Adamma Ebo’s comedy about the first lady of a Southern Baptist megachurch, and “Watcher,” a thriller from Chloe Okuno that tells the story of a woman who becomes convinced she’s being stalked. Also on the slate is Sara Dosa’s “Fire of Love,” which caused a major bidding war before landing at National Geographic Documentary Films. It tells the love story between two French scientists who were killed in a volcanic eruption.
A surprise film will also be shown. “Details will only be revealed as the opening credits roll,” per a press release from the fest.
