‘Yellowjackets’ Star Melanie Lynskey Slams Online Body-Shamers: ‘Skinny Doesn’t Equal Healthy’

Melanie Lynskey has a message to share with fans YellowjacketsThose who feel it’s appropriate for her to comment on her body:

Lynskey spoke out about the body-shaming that she has endured since the Showtime drama’s debut in November 2021 on January 28. The series spans 1996 to 2021 and follows the story about a group of teenage girls who survived an airplane crash in the remote Canadian wilderness, only to be forced into horrific acts of survival. Lynskey portrays Shauna as an adult, and she must face her trauma 25-years later. 

Lynskey has been disappointed by comments made about her body on social media since the premiere. “Most egregious are the ‘I care about her health!!’ people… b— you don’t see me on my Peloton,” she tweeted. “You won’t find me running through the park in my child’s stroller. Healthy does not always mean skinny.

When writer Jenelle Riley replied to Lynskey’s tweet, writing, “Oh the strangers who are bigger experts on my health than my doctor are my FAVORITE* *not really,” Lynskey responded, “I mean…it’s so crazy. Is it going to end in our lifetimes?”

Since the series aired, Melanie Lynskey has spoken out about body-shaming several times. The actor revealed that he was a member the YellowjacketsThe production team strongly suggested that she lose weight while filming. “They were asking me, ‘What do you plan to do? I’m sure the producers will get you a trainer,” Lynskey told Rolling Stone.“They’d love help you with that.”

Lynskey says that Juliette Lewis, her costar, wrote a letter to producers on her behalf. Costars Christina Ricca (and Tawny Cpress) also came to her defense.
