Jule Campbell, 96, Dies; Architect of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue

Jule (pronounced “Julie”) Jeanne Gallina was born on Could 15, 1926, in New York Metropolis. Her father, Jules Gallina, was a supervisor within the lodge business; her mom, Madeleine (Saunig) Gallina, was a dressmaker and, after Jule’s beginning, a homemaker.

Jule grew up in Chicago, in Grosse Pointe, Mich., and on her household’s farm in Flemington. She attended Stephens School in Columbia, Mo., the place she studied psychology, and the Journalism College on the College of Missouri, the place she studied promoting. In 1956 she married Ronald Neil Campbell, who would go to be a longtime artwork director at Fortune journal.

Along with her granddaughter, Ms. Campbell, who lived in Flemington, is survived by her son, Bruce, and a grandson, Graham. Her husband died in 2015.

In 1996, Ms. Campbell retired, after a 31-year reign because the producer of what by 2013, in accordance with Forbes journal, would complete an estimated $1 billion in income. Tyra Banks graced her final cowl; she was the primary Black mannequin to take action, although she shared it with a white Argentine mannequin named Valeria Mazza.
