Jada Pinkett Smith Welcomes a ‘Season of Healing’ in a New Statement

0

Jada Pinkett Smith posted an Instagram response to Will Smith’s slam on comedian Chris Rock at Sunday’s Oscars. The Red Table Talk host posted a simple graphic on her grid with the words, “This is a season for healing, and I’m here for it.”

It did not have a caption and there were very few comments. This is seemingly the first official response from Jada, who has been the topic of much conversation in the last couple of days following her husband’s behavior at the award show after Chris Rock went off script and made a comment about the Matrix actor’s lack of hair—something that is a direct result of her alopecia.

Jada PinkettSmith clearly found the joke offensive and could be seen laughing with a stone-cold expression and an eye roll. Will Smith apparently didn’t find it funny either: He confronted the comedian—who released a documentary on the importance of hair in Black culture in 2009—on stage with a slap. Naturally, the Internet took this interaction and went wild online with everyone having a go. Will Smith has since publicly apologized to the Internet for his comments. Everyone Hates Chriscreator. Chris Rock has not commented on the incident, or offered an apology to Jada, at least not publicly.

Jada has spoken many times in recent years about her hair loss, and the impact alopecia has had upon her. Having been in the industry and under the scope of judgmental eyes for several decades now, the 50-year-old actor isn’t new to comments on her appearance. However, many of the conversations surrounding her hair, image, and personal life have been dominated by negative remarks about Black women. These prejudiced remarks are blatantly racist.
