Gwyneth Paltrow Says Divorce From Chris Martin Was an Opportunity to Get ‘Ruthless’

Gwyneth paltrow has just been very open with her followers during an Instagram Story Q+A.

On January 28, the Goop mogul took to the social media app to find out what her fans really want to know—and give them the answers they seek. Of course, this came with some Goop recs and Glee flashbacks, but it also came with a very candid answer to a question about her “conscious uncoupling” from Chris Martin in 2014 and subsequent divorce in 2016.

“Does it feel like you can really move forward after a divorce?” one fan replied to Paltrow’s “ask me anything” prompt, to which the Shakespeare in Love actor answered with a wholehearted “absolutely.”

“Oh, absolutely. It’s a great chance to be ruthless with your truth, what you want and what you deserve,” she wrote in an IG Story. When another fan asked if she loves Martin’s longtime girlfriend Dakota Johnson, Paltrow replied, “Very much.”

Gwyneth paltrow shared her June 2016 story about how Chris Martin’s dynamics have changed over time. “He’s like my brother. You know, he’s my family,” she said on the premiere episode of Shop Today With Jill MartinJune 17. “I love him,” she continued, per Today. “And I’m so grateful to him for giving me these kids. It worked out well…. You know, it really did, I have to say.” The former couple share a 16-year-old daughter, Apple, and a 14-year-old son, Moses.

However, that didn’t mean the end of the 11-year marriage was easy. Paltrow could not imagine putting things on hold for so long. “I never would have wanted to get divorced,” she said on Anna Faris’s Unqualified podcast back in April, per Harper’s Bazaar. “I never would have wanted to not be married to the father of my kids. Theoretically.”

Paltrow claims that her separation from Martin led to a healthy marriage with Brad Falchuk (writer-producer). “I had learned more about myself through that process than I could have imagined,” she said. “And because I focused on accountability, I was then able to find the most amazing man and build something that I’ve never had before.”
