Emma Watson Revealed the Moment She ‘Fell in Love’ with ‘Harry Potter’ Costar Tom Felton

Everyone remembers the first crush. And every millennial–including Emma Watson*–*remembers when we first fell for actor Tom Felton as he played the vicious blonde Slytherin, Draco Malfoy, in the Harry Potter series. We could not resist the pale, platinum-blond bully, despite our loyalty Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), Hermione Gringer (Watson), Ron Weasley/Rupert Grint), all Gryffindors. 

On December 29, HBO Max shared an exclusive peek at the movie Harry Potter 20th anniversary: Return to HogwartsSpecial with ET CanadaIts premiere on New Year’s Day is just weeks away. Watson, who has spoken about her intense crush on Felton in the past, revealed the moment that caused her infatuation—and it’s very on-brand for the famed feminist. 

“I walked into the room where we were having tutoring,” she recalled, per ET Canada. “The assignment was to draw God’s image, and Tom had drawn a skateboard-riding girl with a backward cap. And I just don’t know how to say it — I just fell in love with him.”

She continued, “I used to come in every day and look for his number on the call sheet it was number seven, and if his name was on the call sheet, it was an extra exciting day,” she said. “He was three years above me and so for him, he was like, ‘You’re like my little sister.’”

Dating rumors have circulated for years about Harry Potter cast members Emma Watson and Tom Felton. The two admitted in the special that they had never dated although Felton knew of Watson’s crush on Watson.

“I think I was in the hair and make-up chair and someone said something along the lines of, ‘Yeah, she had a crush on you,’” Felton said, according to the same sneak peek. “I became very protective over her. Yeah, I’ve always had a soft spot for her and that continues to this day. There’s always been something that’s like, I don’t know, a kinship.”
