What to expect at the Songkran Water Festival in Singapore this April

The Thai New Year festival of Songkran is one of the biggest celebrations in the country, and according to the Royal Thai Embassy, is a celebration that embraces goodwill, love, compassion and thankfulness, using water as the means of expression.

And while it was shelved for the past couple of years due to the pandemic, Thailand is bringing it back this year. But even if you aren’t heading to Land of Smiles, you can still take part in the water fights right here in Singapore, with a version of it hosted by the water theme park Wild Wild Wet Singapore.

The first edition first opened in 2019, and it’s making a return to the water theme park this year. According to Wild Wild Wet, this year’s celebration, called Songkran Water Festival 2.0, is set to be a bigger affair than the previous year.

Water battles are coming!

For one, you’ll be provided with water guns at various points along Wild Wild Wet, but you can bring your own too. Are you a fan of a good water fight, For an hourly water fight, you can catch the new Water Punisher tanks at Tsunami Pool from 1pm to 4. In a giant inflatable maze, you can play water tag with your friends and family.

There will also be Super Soakers (water guns) available at spots like the Shiok River and Professor’s Playground.

Other exciting activities

You can also look forward to other activities and expanded play areas, in addition to water fights. Slip-and-slide down a 9m-long slip and slide mat that ends in an inflatable pool pit. Or, douse your friends in a dunk tank to get doused. There’ll be lots of Instagrammable and interactive spots for fun photo ops, too.

Thai delights to enjoy

If you’re feeling peckish after all the fun, head to Ola Beach Club located within the park to sink your teeth into Thai-style bites like Thai fish cakes, lemongrass lemon chicken rice and more.
