Swiss Chard Frittata

Swiss chard is one of my favorite leafy green vegetables, and it’s so easy to cook. You can eat the leaves and the stems (just cook the stems a little longer since they’re tougher). It’s an excellent source of vitamins K, A, and C, minerals, phytonutrients, antioxidants, and fiber. This lighter frittata uses half whole eggs and half egg whites. My Swiss Chard Eggs Benedict or Chicken Cassoulet with Sausage & Swiss Chard are two other recipes that use Swiss chard.

Is a frittata only a crustless quche?

While frittatas and crustless quiches look similar, there are some differences.

  • Less dairy: The only dairy in this frittata is ¼ cup of Swiss cheese. A quiche is a custard and will contain some form of liquid dairy like cream, milk or half and half.
  • Cook fasterThis frittata is ready once you add the eggs. It takes less than 15 minutes to prepare. Quiches typically take 35 to 40 minutes for baking.
  • Cooking Method Frittatas are usually made by cooking on the stove, and baking in the oven. Quiches are baked in the oven for the entire time.

Can you make a frittata ahead-of-time and reheat it?

You can make vegetable frittatas for meal prep. These can be made ahead and microwaveable before you serve. It will keep for three to four days in the refrigerator

What to serve with Swiss Chard Frittata

This Swiss chard frittata makes a great meatless meal when paired with a salad or crusty bread. You can also serve it for breakfast or brunch with fresh fruit, bagels, or by itself.

Variations:

  • Greens: Sub collard greens, kale, or spinach for Swiss chard if it’s unavailable.
  • Cheese: Swap Swiss cheese with goat, feta, or Parmesan cheese.
  • Vegetables: You can also add bell peppers and mushrooms to your dish.
  • Eggs:Swap whole eggs for egg whites
