When Fendi’s collaboration with Kim Kardashian West’s loungewear brand Skims was first announced in October, it initially took us by surprise. After reviewing the information, we realized that the partnership was logical. Given the reality star-turned-business mogul’s keen eye for body-conscious silhouettes and Fendi’s iconic logo and elevated sportswear, this is a match made in marketable heaven. Designed in tandem with Fendi’s creative director Kim Jones, Fendi x Skims drops tomorrow, Nov. 6, at 9 a.m. ETFendi x Skims is available at fendiskims.com as well as in select Fendi stores worldwide. The 30-second video shows Kardashian West preparing for the shoot in a hot pink velour crop with matching leggings. She then poses on a set that is adorned by the Fendi x Skims logo. Karl Lagerfeld introduced the iconic FF monogram for the first time in 1965. Precious Lee, Tianna Saint-Louis, Jessie Li, Grace Valentine and Grace Valentine join her in wearing coordinating separates. Highlights include bonded leather, form-fitting beachwear and embossed knitwear. Fendi accessories are also included in the collection, including a coral nano Baguette as well as shearling hiking sandals. The L.A. energy is palpable, in other words.
“The innovation in fabrics and fit typical to Skims paired with the luxury and quality of Fendi may feel unexpected to some people, but the similarities between our creative vision and goals are so closely aligned,” Kardashian West said in the original press release. “It’s that tension that excites me.”
This year is all about designer collaborations. While fashion think tanks are nothing new, the sheer magnitude of this year’s wave is unlike anything else. Fendi x Skims is not the only partnership between Versace and FENDACI. Gucci tapped Balenciaga as well as The North Face and Balenciaga. Fendi x Skims is expected to sell quickly, thanks to Kardashian West backing it.
