Single’s Day lands on Nov. 11, or Double 11 as the date suggests, and is a recently adopted Chinese holiday that originated in the ’90s among university students with anti-Valentine’s Day sentiments in mind. Its modern-day form has more consumerist attributes and is now a major shopping festival oversees (think Black Friday times ten, with livestreaming shopping events setting records from Alibaba & its ilk upwards to $155 billion).
