Marie Kreutzer’s “Corsage” Lands Top Prize at London Film Festival

“Corsage” has been topped with the the highest honor on the 2022 BFI London Movie Pageant. The biopic of Empress Elisabeth of Austria received the very best movie award from the fest’s official competitors, per The Hollywood Reporter. 

From writer-director Marie Kreutzer, “Corsage” made its world premiere in Cannes’ Un Sure Regard sidebar and has since been submitted as Austria’s entry to the Worldwide Characteristic Movie Oscar race. “Phantom Thread’s” Vicky Krieps stars.

London Movie Fest’s jury described the movie as “masterfully realized” and praised its “mesmerizing and unique interpretation” of Empress Elisabeth’s life and Krieps’ “chic efficiency of a lady out of time trapped in her personal iconography and her rebellious craving for liberation.”

“When studying the biographies, letters, diaries, and so forth, of Elisabeth, I sensed that her silent rise up is a recurrent theme in her life,” Kreutzer instructed us. “Every thing we all know or suppose we learn about her pertains to that. She was a smoker when smoking was considered dangerous habits for a girl, didn’t contact any meals when pressured to sit down at official dinners, traveled the world each time she might flea Vienna, constructed her personal sports activities tools, and went on in depth hikes or horse rides when being sporty or match was not fashionable or essential for anybody. She actually lived in a golden cage and tried to develop her place’s boundaries so far as she might,” she defined. “I used to be drawn to her complicated character. Each portray of her seems to be totally different. She performed along with her function, and I’m persevering with that for her.”

Kreutzer’s different movies embrace 2011’s “The Fatherless” (“Die Vaterlosen”) and 2016’s “We Used to Be Cool” (“Was Hat Uns Bloß So Ruiniert”).
