Women account for three of five helmers in the running for Director of the Year at this year’s London Critics’ Circle Film Awards. Nominations just dropped, and Jane Campion (“The Power of the Dog”), Céline Sciamma (“Petite Maman”), and Joanna Hogg (“The Souvenir Part II”) are up for directing honors.
Western “The Power of the Dog” and coming-of-age drama “The Souvenir Part II” are also among the titles competing for Film of the Year. They’re joined by two other women-directed offerings: Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Elena Ferrante adaptation “The Lost Daughter” and Julia Ducournau’s revenge thriller “Titane.”
The Foreign Language Film of the Year includes “Titane” and magical realism tale “Petit Maman,” both of which are French films.
Campion and Gyllenhaal both compete in the Screenwriter of the Year category. Both are expected Oscar nods for the Adapted Screenplay category.
Campion leads the nominations with nine, followed by Gyllenhaal (six) and Hogg (five), respectively.
