These Portable Weights Will Instantly Fire Up Your At-Home Workouts

At first glance Power Reels may look like any other set of dumbbells—but they are anything but. They are connected by coils, and two thin cables that spring back and stretch, creating constant tension throughout your workouts. This tension allows for a continuous burn in every motion. (It’s basically like using a cable or pulley machine for working out, except with more flexibility and room for variety.) For example, I did a chest fly and couldn’t believe how challenging the move was. I lifted my regular weights off the ground to see how it stacks up against the chest fly. Then I tried the same movement. The verdict? Power Reels are the best dumbbells.

What’s more, because of the retractable cables, I can use them to mimic movements I’d normally do OnlyCable tricep kickbacks are a great exercise to do at the gym. The movement is much more difficult than using dumbbells. Oh, and if you’re wondering whether I’m sore after using them? That’s a yes.

My fitness equipment is my idol now that I do so much of my workouts at home. Everything from foam rollers to resistance bands and dumbbells elevates my sweat sessions, and since adding these Power Reels to my routine, I find I’m pushing myself significantly harder. The brand has dozens of free online videos you can follow if you want to do a complete workout using them, but I’ve been adding them to the end of my 30-minute runs to get in a few arm and chest reps—after a few minutes, my muscles are fired up.

I lift weights because I love getting stronger, and the Power Reels offer me endless ways to challenge myself, plus they’re more fun than run-of-the-mill dumbbells because of the variety of movements you can do with them. The added bonus, of course, is that because they weigh only two pounds, I’m able to travel with them easily—should I ever go anywhere again.
