Adalynn Ruiz is the daughter of a teacher at Uvalde Elementary School in Texas. On May 24, a gunman shot 19 children and two teachers. Adalynn shared a heartbreaking tribute on social media to her mother.
Ruiz, the daughter of Eva Mireles a fourth-grade teacher who had been in education for nearly two decades, is a student at Robb Elementary School. Mireles’s coteacher at Robb elementary school, Texas, was Irma Garcia.
“My sweet mommy, I will miss you forever,” Ruiz wrote on Twitter, sharing two Notes App pages of memories and a selfie of the two of them together. In the post, Ruiz praised her 44-year-old mother’s hard work as a teacher and CrossFit enthusiast, her love of activities like karaoke, and the “silly voice” she used when talking to her dogs. Ruiz shared that her mother would call her every day at 4:30 after school and that she will forever be “so proud” to be Mireles’s daughter.
“I want to fight with you for the stupidest things and then laugh with you after. I want everything back. I want you to return to me mom. I miss you more than words can explain,” Ruiz wrote, adding, “You are so known by many now and I’m so happy that people know your name and that beautiful face of yours and they know what a hero looks like…I will take care of dad. I will take care of our dogs and I will forever say your name so you are always remembered, Eva Mireles, 4th grade teacher at Robb elementary who selflessly jumped in front of her students to save their lives.”

Ruiz’s post received overwhelming support. Many expressed their sympathy and called on lawmakers to pass stricter gun control legislation after the 27th school shooting.
