What does it take for a duck-woman to appear on TV’s oral sex scene? Roar,The creators of AppleTV+ have created a new series. GLOWThis question was answered by Nicole Kidman. The eight episodes are an anthology series. Each episode stands alone as a short story. One, written by Janine Nabers and starring Issa Rae, is a chilling sci-fi thriller about racism in “nice” white liberal spaces. Another was written by Roar co-creators and showrunners Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch and starring Alison Brie, is clearly a love letter to the community of women who can’t stop consuming entertainment about women getting murdered.
RoarAn all-woman creative group created. The duck sex scene is featured in an episode in Which Merritt Wever plays the role of a woman who falls in Love with a Mallard from her local Park. How did it get there? It all started with an irreverent feminist playwright and two female showrunners. The network also included women executives and Nicole Kidman’s special intervention.

“When we were making GLOW,We were approached by people to make another. GLOWYou can also use it to refer to: GLOW-adjacent, and we wanted to make something very different,” Flahive, who directed the duck episode, tells Glamour. Both Liz Mensch and she had a long history of innovative storytelling about females. Prior to GLOWFlahive had previously worked on Nurse JackieAnd Homeland, and Mensch on WeedsAnd Orange is the New Black. With Roar, they wanted to take women’s stories outside of the confines of realism. “We wanted to be in all these different spaces that we hadn’t been invited to yet, creatively,” Flahive says.
Roar is based on a book by Cecelia Ahern, but the original story “The Woman Who Was Fed by a Duck” is absent of any interspecies sex. “I thought it could be interesting if that duck leaned more into that sense of humor that we’re conditioned in society to equate with sexiness but in fact is quite toxic and ended up seducing her,” Broadway playwright and actor Halley Feiffer tells Glamour. “We could use this relationship between a human woman and a duck to explore the insidious ills of toxic masculinity in our culture and how we’re conditioned to gaslight ourselves to the point that we can barely recognize ourselves.”
