In an interview about her latest film Being the Ricardos, Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman called out the journalist conducting the interview for a question about ex-husband Tom Cruise that she considered “sexist.”

During the interview with The Guardian, published December 26, Kidman was shocked that Cruise had addressed Cruise about her marriage. The journalist was responding to Cruise’s comments regarding the marriage between Lucille and Desi Arnaz in Aaron Sorkin’s film, which can be streamed now on Amazon.

“It’s about a creative and romantic relationship that doesn’t work out,” Kidman told The GaurdianAbout the film, which tells the story about the complicated marriage of the two television stars. It was made in 1960 and ended their 20-year-long marriage. “But from it come some extraordinary things. That is what I love. I love that it’s not a happy ending. This film shows that extraordinary relationships can thrive and be preserved for future generations. Yeah, that’s really gorgeous. You can’t make people behave how you want them to, and sometimes you’re going to fall in love with someone who isn’t going to be the person you spend the rest of your life with.”

The journalist asked her if she was referring to her marriage with Tom Cruise. Cruise and Kidman met while Kidman was filming Days of ThunderThey were married in late 1990. They had two children together, and they divorced in 2001.  Since 2006, Kidman is married to Keith Urban, a country music singer.

“Oh, my God, no, no. Absolutely not. No,” Nicole Kidman replied. “I mean, that’s, honestly, so long ago that that isn’t in this equation. So no. I wouldn’t want to be pigeonholed in that way. It feels almost sexist, as I’m not sure if anyone would say it to a man. And at some point, you go, ‘Give me my life. In its own right.’”
