Miley Cyrus Had a Major Wardrobe Malfunction on New Year’s Eve—and Handled It Perfectly

Miley Cyrus proves—as usual—that she is a consummate professional. 

Cyrus appeared on stage for her NBC New year’s Eve special on December 31-January 1. Miley’s New Year’s Eve party, not knowing that her entire top would fall off at the end of her performance of “We Can’t Stop.” Just like the title of the song suggests, Cyrus did not miss a beat. As the song transitioned into “Party in the U.S.A.,” the singer continued singing while holding the top to her chest like nothing was wrong until she could make it off stage for a quick change.

After returning in a red blazer, Cyrus joked about the wardrobe malfunction during “Angels Like You,” with a nod to the “Party in the U.S.A” lyrics. Cyrus joked that “Everybody’s definitely watching me now.” People. “I still wear the most clothes I’ve ever worn on stage.”

Fans were amazed at her ability to handle the unexpected moment. “Miley Cyrus just had the biggest save of 2022,” one fan tweeted. Another wrote, “We are 5 minutes into the New Year and Miley Cyrus lost her top on live TV, professionally left the stage, and came back in just a blazer. Iconic.”

Miley Cyrus thanked viewers at the end of the program. Miley’s New Year’s Eve partywhich aired live at NBC and was streamed on Peacock.  “Thank you, everyone, thank you. Tonight’s show was about being flexible, accepting defeat and making the most of the worst situations. This resilience should not be lost. Let’s take that spirit into the New Years,” she said. “We’ve all learned to accept the unexpected. Instead of seeing it as a problem let’s view it as an opportunity. I wish everyone in Miami, and everyone watching from abroad, a happy and healthy 2022. Thank you so much for making tonight possible. You were everything I needed to have the best party.
