Gisele Bündchen Shares The Story Behind That Cameo In ’The Devil Wears Prada’

Gisele Bündchen may be best known for dominating the runways and magazine pages of the early Noughties – but who can forget her brief foray into the world of acting? British actually. Vogue’s June 2022 cover star has revealed that her cameo in Prada is the Devil’s Clothes – which sees her playing Runway employee (and immaculately groomed “clacker”) Serena – very nearly didn’t happen.

“I was flying from Los Angeles and the lady who was writing this movie [Aline Brosh McKenna] came to me, and she said, ‘I’m doing this movie, Devil Wears Prada, and it’s all about fashion and everything. And I’m getting some models to act on it’,” Bündchen says in the latest episode of Vogue’s Life In Looks series. “I’m like, ‘No, I’m not interested. I’m not gonna play a model, I do that every day.”

Thankfully for us, Bündchen did go on to accept the part that was written for her – although that doesn’t mean she wasn’t daunted by the prospect. “I am not an actress; I never had an acting class,” she continues. “It was Meryl Streep, [who]I consider her the greatest actress of all time. It was Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and all of them [are] incredible… So, I was like okay, ‘I hope I don’t screw this up.’”

Fast forward to today, and Bündchen is still winning over new fans with her cameo, including her own daughter, Vivian. “It’s funny because my daughter… was [at] some friend’s house,” the supermodel explains. “She’s like, ‘Mom I saw you in a movie. You were wearing glasses. Was that you?’… It was cute to have my daughter recognising me for the two seconds I was on screen.”
