Chloe Fineman Is the Ultimate Beauty Chameleon

There’s a furry community rabbit hole I went down not that long ago that’s huge on TikTok. They make their own costumes. I found the building of these costumes fascinating. Turtle Creek Lane is my favorite Instagram account. This woman in Dallas goes nuts decorating her house. I’ve been to Dallas and seen the strange world of women my age. It just freaks me out to be like, “Oh, this is what my life could be if I had two kids and married someone sweet and lived in Texas.” It’s a lot of “Instagram, Instagram, here’s my baby, here’s my dog,” and then they just sell stuff with these “click my outfits,” and it’s Ugg boots and Lululemon.

What’s your favorite way to spend a few minutes for yourself?

To watch the most terrifying and disturbing series on HBO or Netflix. To watch something so terrifying. Any creepy TV show soothes my soul. Archive 81It’s out! Yellowjackets, The VowAll that. It chemically does something for me.

Did you make any New Year’s resolutions?

I haven’t sat down yet to write it, but I’ll get it done in February. I will definitely be drinking more water. I’ve been called out by multiple people who are like, “All I’ve seen you drink today are five cold brews and two diet Cokes.”

What’s your power perfume?

Terre d’Hermes is my favorite because it makes me feel great. It’s a little creepy because my father wears it, which is strange, and my boyfriend now wears it. It smells great on women, I think.

What one thing could you do to change beauty perceptions on social media and Hollywood?

Gen Z is blessed because beauty is so readily accepted. I was ridiculed growing up for wearing makeup. In middle school, people would be like, “You look way prettier without all that makeup.” But makeup is so fun, fuck off. Now, it’s accepted. You can do it, boo. You can shave your eyebrows if you wish. You can bleach and shave, or you can wear no makeup. Who cares?

I believe that the obsession with beauty and wellness needs to be stopped. Berkeley, California is where I was born, which is a more hippie-friendly and natural place to be raised. There’s definitely a lot of “What are you doing? Take it off, be as natural as possible.” Then when the wellness stuff got crazy, I rolled my eyes too. You’re like, “If I eat this, it’ll fix my skin.” The neurosis associated with the glowiest skin. Some chemicals are okay. I can’t do all organic on my own. I need help. Some chemicals.

Who are the women who inspire you the most right at the moment?

Zendaya, huge. Reese Witherspoon, such a badass. Alex Cooper is my favorite. Call her Daddy girl. She is so unapologetic and outrageously herself. I think women who realize it’s okay to have women be your audience—and there’s a huge audience—are the people who really inspire me. Comedy is a genre that I feel strongly about, especially since so much of it is geared toward men. People forget that some things can be just as relatable to women. I’ll be there [listening to her podcast]I’ll go to sleep and then wake up to see the most graphic stuff.
