Fans of historical fantasy series OutlanderHold on to your corsets! Starz is said to be developing a prequel series for the romantic time travel story. Variety shared the exciting news on February 25, though Sony and Starz have not confirmed the report…yet.

Based on Diana Gabaldon’s book series OutlanderFollow Claire and Jamie Fraser’s epic love story (Caitriona balfe and Sam Heughan), as they meet in 1743 Scotland. Claire meets Jamie Fraser after a British WWII nurse accidentally goes back through time. She then meets the ruggedly handsome soldier. It’s often violent and really good. Very sexy.

Given the centrality of time travel and other magical elements, there are many opportunities to tell stories with characters we already know. At this point, however, we can only speculate on who will be making an appearance.

Here’s everything we know so far about the upcoming Outlander prequel series:

The captain of the ship will stay aboard, so it is called. VarietyAccording to reports, OutlanderMatthew B. Roberts, showrunner and executive producers, will also oversee the new series. The writers are scheduled to start work in March 2022. The outlet reports that Ronald D. Moore (who wrote the books for TV) will executive produce with Maril D. Davis, Tall Ships Productions.

The plot…could be anything! As we said, time travel is possible in this universe.

Gabaldon has published a prequel story called VirginsAccording to Facebook, he is working on a prequel about Jamie’s parents. However, there’s no indication that either one of these stories will form the basis for the new show.
