60 New Year’s Resolutions To Set This Year

Lose weight. Run a marathon. Eliminate alcohol. Get a raise. We make the same tired new year’s resolutions every year and then never seem to keep them, or forget we made them altogether by February. Seriously–is it just me, or do new year’s resolutions never seem to work? My suspicion is that we set resolutions based on what we want, and not what will actually make us happier and healthier. We think that losing weight will make you more confident or that running the marathon will make it easier to get to the gym (and to reach our weight loss goals). We believe that cutting down on alcohol will make us healthier, or that a raise will solve all our problems. These resolutions are supposed to make us healthier. Feel good, or are these “goals” in the name of being better actually distracting us from truly being healthy? 

In 2022, ditch your typical resolutions that leave you feeling stressed out or let down year after year, and instead, opt for resolutions that you’ll enjoy so much and will make you feel so good, you’ll have no trouble sticking with them at all. These 60 resolutions will make it easier to feel happier, healthier and more positive. Whether you choose one resolution or all 60, you’ll be happier and healthier by 2023. 

 

If you want to revamp your diet…

  • Take a look at your body before and during every meal to find out how it feels.
  • Don’t follow outdated food rules 
  • Focus on adding more nutrients (instead of eating less calories/carbohydrates, etc.)
  • Two meals a day with leafy greens
  • Drink more water and eat water-rich foods (such as watermelon, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc.).
  • Try new produce you’ve never cooked with before
  • Enjoy the rainbow with a wide range of fruits and vegetables in every hue
  • Preparing meals for the week is a great way to make cooking easier.
  • Seasonally, eat
  • Replace your favorite meals with plant-based alternatives (cauliflower pizza crust, chickpea pasta, etc.)

 

If you’re motivated to upgrade your fitness routine…

  • Exercise in exciting and enjoyable ways
  • Be specific about your goals
  • Include an outdoor activity in your routine (walking counts!)

  • Reexamine all of your relationships–let go of the ones that don’t make you feel good, and invest more time into the ones that do
  • Even the smallest things can be grateful for.
  • Meditation can be a good practice.
  • Set a routine for your morning and evening that makes you feel happy and relaxed.
  • A weekly social media detox is a good idea.
  • Every night, get 7-9 hours of sleep
  • Talk to yourself the way you would to a loved one
  • Say “no” when you mean no
  • Schedule time to do something fun “just because” every day

If you want to feel more in control of your finances…

  • Maximize your retirement contributions or start contributing towards a retirement fund
  • Credit cards can be paid off
  • Your credit score should be increased
  • Monthly payments are required to pay off one item
  • Reach a certain level of savings
  • Make an emergency fund and add a percentage to your salary.
  • Save for a big goal like a down payment on a house or car.
  • Talk to your boss about your compensation plans. Discuss with him how you can increase your compensation.
  • Take steps to improve your financial health
  • You should budget to allow for experiences and items that bring you joy.

 

If you’re ready to upgrade your home…

  • You can create a daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedule.
  • You can replace one disposable item in your kitchen by a more eco-friendly option (e.g., paper towels for rags or aluminum foil for reusable wrap, or counter cleaner with an essential-oil-based cleaner).
  • Take on one home project each month
  • Do a quick tidy up of your closets, drawers, laundry chairs, and piles paper once a week
  • So your home always feels fresh, make seasonal changes
  • You can make a big change by painting a wall, buying a new couch or DIYing a gallery walls to transform your space.
  • Every month, organize one area, such as your makeup stash, pantry or fridge.
  • You can bring more of your personality to your home. 
  • Be a good habitual person and clean up after yourself.
  • Upgrade your shower or bath to create a more peaceful environment
