Jean Paul Gaultier by Haider Ackermann

Jean Paul Gaultier’s newest couture visitor designer is none apart from the legendary Haider Ackermann, who hasn’t proven his namesake model in virtually three years. Fortunately, his ready-to-wear already bordered on couture, with a revelatory eye for tailoring on the feminine physique (and male, for that matter—hello Timothée Chalamet). His dashing, breathtaking silhouettes had been a lesson in restraint and kind. With simply over 30 seems, Ackermann dug into Gaultier’s archive to create assortment that harkens again to the heyday of the ’90s supermodel (assume: sauntering, turning, posing, and demonstrating the wondrous potential of garments to create drama). As one of many premier colorists of our time, Ackermann debuted daring feathers over razor-sharp suiting, metallic bombers, and a really epic aubergine costume that channeled Diana Vreeland and Irving Penn’s images. The near-silence of the music let the garments do all of the speaking, offering one of the refreshing and clear-minded runway displays we’ve seen in fairly a while.—Kevin LeBlanc, vogue affiliate
