“You are actually getting into my universe,” proclaims Rebeca Huntt in a brand new trailer for “Beba.” “I’m the lens, the topic, and the authority.” The doc sees the Afro-Latina filmmaker exploring her identification, reflecting on her childhood because the daughter of a Dominican father and Venezuelan mom, and investigating trauma. “Each considered one of us inherits the curses of our ancestors. I’m watching the curses of my household slowly kill us, so I’m going to struggle — and there shall be casualties,” she reveals.
As a first-generation American, Huntt remembers being warned that she’d by no means be seen “as a human being.” In “Beba,” she “searches for a option to forge her personal artistic path amid a panorama of intense racial and political unrest,” per the movie’s synopsis.
“Beba” was simply named as a Rooster & Egg Undertaking: Hatched grantee and can obtain $30,000 towards its completion prices and influence marketing campaign. The “cinematic memoir” made its world premiere on the 2021 Toronto Worldwide Movie Competition and opens June 24 in NY and LA.
