Lesley Manville may have played an accomplished dressmaker in “Phantom Thread,” but now she’s filling the shoes of the outsider looking in, in this new trailer for “Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris,” set among the glamour of the 1950s French fashion world.

The titular Mrs. Harris makes a living in post-war London by cleaning houses, and is one day captivated by the sight of a Christian Dior gown in a client’s home. Determined to purchase a frock of her own, she visits the French capital and embarks on an adventure aided — and dismissed — by various strangers in the Parisian fashion scene. She may think Monsieur Dior looks exactly like her milkman, but she manages to find her feet along the way and makes friends.

“Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris” is based on the 1958 novel of the same name.

Co-written by Carroll Cartwright (“What Maisie Knew”) and Olivia Hetreed (“Girl with a Pearl Earring”), alongside Keith Thompson and director Anthony Fabian, it will be in theaters July 15.
