The Best Colleen Hoover Books

0 700

If you’ve opened TikTok anytime in the last year or so, chances are, you’ve seen a BookTok-er talking about Colleen Hoover (and maybe you’ve even seen Ms. Colleen Hoover herself pop up on your FYP). Her books are seemingly taking over the internet—even though most were published years ago.

She’s known for the depth of her storylines, the uniqueness of her characters, and the occasional shocking plot twist. She writes all genres, including contemporary romance, new adult and thrillers. And I know from personal experience that once you read one Colleen Hoover book, you’ll want to read them all. It can be difficult to choose where to begin with nearly 20 novels. That’s why we’ve done the work for you and put together this short list of our favorite Colleen Hoover books.

I also want to note that a large number of Hoover’s books are available on Kindle Unlimited, which means you can read them for free with a membership (more reasons to love a Kindle!).

These five books are worth adding to your reading pile immediately.

Genre: Romance
Goodreads Rating 4.72/5

Reminders for HimThis Colleen Hoover book was just released in January. It quickly rose to the top on my list of favorite Colleen Hoover novels. You can see that readers are obsessed with this book by its incredible Goodreads rating (with more than 26,000 reviews already), Much like most of her other novels, this story centers around characters and a romance that you’ll be rooting for from the very beginning (and a man that you’ll definitely be dreaming about). However, the love story is only part of the story. Reminders for Him covers loss, motherhood, and forgiveness in ways that will truly make your heart ache—in sadness but also in happiness. It’s a story that transports you right into the center of the characters’ lives, and you’ll definitely find yourself daydreaming about it even when you’re not reading. This book was complete in two readings.

What is it all about?Kenna Rowan, who spent five years in prison for a terrible mistake, returns to the place where it all went wrong to reunite her with her four-year old daughter. It is difficult to rebuild the bridges that Kenna has destroyed. Everyone in her daughter’s life is determined to shut Kenna out, no matter how hard she works to prove herself. The only person who hasn’t closed the door on her completely is Ledger Ward, a local bar owner and one of the few remaining links to Kenna’s daughter. But if anyone were to discover how Ledger is slowly becoming an important part of Kenna’s life, both would risk losing the trust of everyone important to them. Despite the pressure around them, the two form a bond that is mutually beneficial. However, the risk increases as their romance grows. Kenna must overcome the past mistakes in order to build a new future that is full of hope and healing.

This unique love triangle story will keep you riveted to the end. I still remember the feeling I had when I finished this book over two years ago—it has the type of characters and storytelling that makes you feel every type of emotion possible, and you’ll find yourself personally invested in the outcome of the characters’ lives. It Ends with UsThis is not your typical romance novel. It has so much depth, and underlying meaning, that you must read it and experience it to fully understand. This is one of those books that you just don’t forget about.

What is it all about?Lily, despite her difficult upbringing, graduates college and moves to Boston in order to open her own company. Ryle Kincaid is a stubborn neurosurgeon, who breaks his no-dating rule just for Lily. But as their relationship deepens, Lily finds herself unable to stop thinking about her first love, Atlas, and everything they shared together—as well as everything that might’ve been.

Genre:Romance and Thrill
Goodreads Rating 4.36/5

Hoover took a departure from her romance novels to write VerityThis book is a combination of thriller, mystery, suspense, and romance. If you’ve read any of our recent book round-ups here on The Everygirl, you know how much our editors love this book. It caused quite a stir and many people have now read it. Obviously, this means it is a great book, but the real reason we can’t stop talking about it is because of the story—it is truly the most shocking book I have ever read. It also started a huge internet book debate about what really happened, so you’ll be wrapped up in this world even after you finish reading.

What is it all about? Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer when she gets the offer of a lifetime: to ghost write the final books of best-selling author Verity Crawford’s most famous series, which she’s unable to finish after being in an accident. Verity’s husband encourages Lowen to come stay at their home to go through Verity’s office and notes for ideas for the rest of the series—and while she’s there, she finds much more than she bargained for.

Trigger warning! This book contains highly mature themes including child abuse and death. If you are sensitive or if you have any questions, please review all trigger warnings.

Genre:Contemporary Romance, New Adult
Goodreads Rating 4.36/5

For those of you who read Sarah Dessen books as a child, Heart BonesIt feels a lot like her adult version of her novels. It made me nostalgic and eager to discover what would happen next. It falls in the “New Adult” genre (the main characters are 19 and 20), which is a perfect middle ground between YA and adult fiction. As per usual, Hoover’s characters shine through—each with a depth and uniqueness that fits so perfectly into the storyline. I loved that this book has elements of one of those classic-yet-unexpected romances that we all love but also has a bit of mystery with a pretty significant plot twist.

What is it all about? With only two months separating her from the future she’s built and the past she desperately wants to leave behind, an unexpected death leaves Beyah with no place to go. Beyah’s only option is to spend the rest her summer in Texas with her dad and his family, who she barely knows. Samson is her opposite. She is from poverty and neglect, while Samson comes from wealth and privilege. They soon bond over the unexpected and have an immediate connection that can’t be denied. They agree to stay in the shallow end for a summer fling. What Beyah doesn’t realize is that a rip current is coming, and it’s about to drag her heart out to sea.

Genre:Contemporary Romance, New Adult
Goodreads Rating 4.23/5

If you’re hooked on the idea of a “Sarah Dessen for adults,” this one is also for you. Regretting YouThe unique thing about, however is that it is told from two perspectives: Clara (16 years old) and Morgan (32 years old). Although they both have their own stories to tell, the narrative weaves together seamlessly—and I loved that it felt like a YA novel and contemporary romance, all in one. We get not only two romances, but also an extraordinary story about a family dealing with tragedy and the shocking secrets that are revealed.

What is it all about?Morgan Grant and Clara, her teenage daughter, would love nothing more than to be exactly the same. Morgan and Clara struggle to coexist with their conflicting personalities and goals. The only person who can bring peace to the household is Chris—Morgan’s husband, Clara’s father, and the family anchor. Chris is involved in a terrible and unresolved accident. Morgan and Clara will not only be affected by the heartbreaking and lasting consequences, but many others as well. While struggling to rebuild everything that crashed around them, Morgan finds comfort in the last person she expects to, and Clara turns to the one boy she’s been forbidden to see.
