There are still plenty more stories to be told about the family at the center of “Pachinko.” The Apple TV+ drama, which follows four generations of a Korean immigrant family across Korea, Japan, and the U.S., and which is based on Min Jin Lee’s acclaimed bestselling novel of the same name, has been renewed for a second season. Deadline confirmed the news.

The series, from creator-showrunner Soo Hugh and exec producer Theresa Kang-Lowe, was a recent Women and Hollywood Pick of the Day, which we described as “an intimate tale that revolves around one woman, following her from birth to old age, yet also a sprawling saga that touches upon colonialism, migration, class, history, and family.”

Its first season focuses on the early years of Sunja — portrayed at varying ages by newcomers Yu-na Jeon and Minha Kim, and Oscar winner Youn Yuh-jung (“Minari”) — as she moves from Korea to Japan during Japanese colonial rule of Korea. Deadline reports that Kang-Lowe and Hugh teased that the second season might explore the third generation.

“Words cannot express my joy in being able to continue telling the extraordinary story of this indomitable family,” said Hugh of the show’s renewal. “It’s an honor to be able to continue working with this amazing cast and crew.”

Hugh’s previous TV credits include “The Killing,” “The Terror,” which she wrote on and exec produced, and “The Whispers,” which she also created. Inaugurating a new incubator for writers writing stories about the Asian Pacific Diaspora, she launched it earlier this year. Also on her slate is Disney’s relaunch of “Flight of the Navigators,” and she is set to produce an Amazon pic written by two-time Pulitzer-winning playwright Lynn Nottage.

“Pachinko’s” first season finale is now available to stream on Apple TV+.
