Oscar nominations won’t be announced until February 8, but Jane Campion, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Rebecca Hall’s odds of scoring noms are looking as stellar as ever. The USC Scripter Awards, which recognizes the best film and TV adaptations, has announced its nominees, and three of the five films in the race are penned by women: Campion’s “The Power of the Dog,” Gyllenhaal’s “The Lost Daughter,” and Hall’s “Passing,” based on works by Thomas Savage, Elena Ferrante, and Nella Larson, respectively.
Hall, Gyllenhaal, Campion, and Gyllenhaal also directed the films for which they are being recognized. The two latter made their feature director debuts with these projects.
The 34th edition of The Scripters is scheduled for February 26.
“The Scripter is a strong barometer for the Oscars in adapted screenplay. Fourteen previous Oscar winners made a stop with the important guild,” per Variety.
Molly Smith Metzler (“Maid”) and Jac Schaeffer (“WandaVision”) are among the TV nominees.
