Halle Berry has been named this year’s recipient of the Critics Choice Association’s SeeHer Award, “which honors a woman who advocates for gender equality, portrays characters with authenticity, defies stereotypes, and pushes boundaries,” per Deadline.

Zendaya, Gal Gadot and Viola Davis were the previous recipients of the SeeHer Award.

Berry made her feature directorial debut earlier this year with “Bruised,” a comeback story about a disgraced MMA fighter that she also starred in. When it was released on Netflix, the pic reached #1 in 21 countries. Following its success, Berry signed an multi-picture agreement that will see Berry produce and star in films for the streaming platform.

In 2002 Berry made history as the first Black woman to take home the Oscar for Best Actress, landing the honor for “Monster’s Ball.” Nearly two decades have passed, and she remains theOnlyBlack woman to win Best Actress Award. “It has become heartbreaking that no one else has stood there,” Berry revealed earlier this year.

“John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum,” the “X-Men” franchise, and “Introducing Dorothy Dandridge” are among her other credits. For the latter, she won an Emmy. Berry’s upcoming slate includes “The Mothership,” a Netflix sci-fi about a woman who discovers an extraterrestrial object under her house.

Berry will receive the SeeHer Award from the Critics Choice Awards, which are scheduled to take place January 9th.
