Gisele’s Colourist Reveals The Secrets To Her Sun-Kissed Hair

A colourist who specializes in this type of colour can make your hair look effortless. Vasconcelos, a colourist who is skilled in creating colour that suits you and your hair, can be relied upon to do the hard work. “If it’s something that doesn’t suit your skin or hair type, I won’t do it. Your hair also needs to suit your lifestyle so I seek to understand if you’re the kind of girl who comes to the salon for a blow dry every week, or if you’re more likely to come and see me every six months,” he says. “If it’s the latter, we create colour that lasts a long time while continuing to look natural.”

His technique involves painting colour onto the hair freehand, and he puts great emphasis on using as little bleach and colour as possible, placing colour only where it’s really needed. One of the key areas – and a technique visible on Gisele – is including lighter pieces around the face, to “bring more shine to the skin”. “Everything that you put on the client’s hair that looks too harsh or too artificial isn’t flattering and makes the client look older, or like she’s trying too hard to achieve that look,” he says. “The hair will be healthier if you use fewer foils on it.”

These hairstyles can be applied to any hair texture and skin tone. “If you have curly or afro textured hair and you go too light at the ends, you can end up losing the curls,” Vasconcelos says, advising that it’s all about being precise with colour application. “If you put too much bleach or colour on curls, they can become quite straight, and you don’t get that definition.”

Gisele and co request hair that’s “super natural but shiny, very sexy and effortless”, says Vasconcelos. “If it’s too much they don’t like it because it looks vulgar; if it’s too subtle, then it ends up being boring.” If you’re keen to follow suit, Vasconcelos recommends simply asking your hairdresser for a sun-kissed look, rather than opting for balayage. “Sometimes you’ll end up super blonde and the hair is dry, so my advice is to ask for a sunkissed look, always.”

If it’s good enough for Gisele…
