This is the one for all of our curly Qs. Taming the mane is not for the weak, and if you’re someone who likes to get up and go, sticking to the one or two hairstyles that you know will never let you down is definitely the safe option. We all know the struggle of washing hair every day and maintaining each curl. But the sky is the limit when it comes to styles that curly-haired women can achieve. Don’t believe us?

Today, we’re taking a page out of the books of expert stylists on the perfect haircuts for curly hair and the products you’ll need to keep up with your ‘do. Keep scrolling for trending haircuts that’ll have you booking an appointment with your stylist ASAP!

Nicole Mangrum

GLOBAL HAIR ARTIST – EXPERT ON INTRO

Mangrum, a global hair artist, has had her work featured in Oprah Daily (Vogue), Wall Street Journal (Wall Street Journal) and Vogue (Style). Intro, where you can book one-on-1 advice video chats between style and beauty experts, is also a specialty of Mangrum.

1. Diamond ‘Fro

If you have 4A to 4C curls, we’ve found the cut for you. The volume, the bounce, the shape—it’s nothing short of everything. Your curls will stay put because of their curly texture. But, if you want to give them more lift or define, keep them moisturized. You can shape your hair with a leave-in product, especially between washes. Another tip is to let the steam shape your hair if your hair appears squished or flattened when you wake up. This will give your hair a boost of moisture and revive it.

Flora and Curl

Sweet Hibiscus Curl Activating Lotion

This leave-in cream is great for reshaping, frizzing and re-zhuzhing your hair. It is sulfate-, alcohol- and vegan-friendly and enriched with sweet almond oil and coconut oil to make your hair soft and moisturized. Massage it all over your head, from the roots to the ends.

2. Layers

Consider this the curly girl’s “Rachel.” It doesn’t have the same swoopy-ness, but it gives off a similar look of ease. Unlike the ’90s layered hair we’re seeing come back, this style is perfect for a wash ‘n go. Because the cut already gives your hair dimension and body, you don’t need to do too much styling to make it look good. To set your curls, use a good curl cream or gel. This style is medium to long and requires a microfiber towel to wrap your curls.

The Doux

Big Poppa Curl Define Gel

This gel seals in moisture, making your hair feel softer than other gels.

Aquis

Rapid Dry Lisse Hair Wrap Towel

This microfiber towel will not cause hair to frizz, breakage or shrinkage. This towel is big enough to hold long, thick hair and it feels great on the head.

3. Bixie

The bixie—a length just between a bob and a pixie—is taking the world by storm. We’re seeing it in all textures but especially all curly textures from 3A to 4c. With kinky and coily curls, little-to-no styling is required to make this look good, and it’s ideal for those who like to take their wash days as far as possible. To give your curls a tighter shape, you can use a curl definition cream to give your curls a curlier texture.

Briogeo

Curl Charisma Leave-In Defining Crème

This cream is loved by curly girls for its ability to define curls, add moisture, reduce frizz and doesn’t flake.

4. Curly Bangs

“I love to see coily and curly hair in their natural textures but cut in strong shapes such as a heart shape or fringe that makes a statement,” said Nicole Mangrum, global hair artist and expert on Intro. Gone are the days where curls had to hide—instead, put them front and center with a bang. You can pair this with a long hairstyle to frame your face and add dimension. For a bolder look, try a bob or ponytail for a bolder look. Or, you could go for a layered style. There are many options.

We especially love bangs on curly hair because they’re so easy to style. You can finger-coil each strand and then use a blowdryer with a diffuser for setting them in place.

Dyson

Supersonic Hair Dryer

This is arguably the most famous hair dryer in the world—and for good reason. The Dyson Supersonic was designed to suit every hair type, length, texture, and style. It has a diffuser attachment and low speed and heat settings, specifically for diffusing the hair.

5. Shag

Although it goes by a few names—shag, mullet, wolf cut—this style is defined by one thing: lots of messy, undone texture, apt for curly hair. We’ve seen this on celebs like Whitney Peak and Natasha Lyonne, and it’s usually paired with a full bang, lots of choppy layers, and a medium length.

Because this style thrives off an undone look, you can go longer between washes. Your scalp may need a little TLC by the time your wash day rolls around. Use a scalp treatment to moisturize and bring back the life to your hair between washes. Massage a ultra-moisturizing shampoo onto your scalp.

PATTERN by Tracee Eli Ross

Scalp Serum

This blend of peppermint and rosemary oils, aloe, castor oil, and Niacinamide has the ability to soothe and nourish dry, flaky, itchy scalps.

Ouidad

Curl Quencher Moisturizing Shampoo

This shampoo cleanses roots without stripping hair of any oil or moisture. This shampoo will give you the rehydration that you need without weighing down your hair or shrinking it.

6. Chin-Length Bob

Mangrum says that shorter haircuts are in fashion, with the French-styled bob haircut being the most popular. If your style is chic, you’ll love the blunt edge of this cut. This style is especially bold for curly hair. Unlike previous iterations of the style, it’s not necessary to have sleek, straight hair to pull it off. Instead, make your hair look special with a gel that makes it shine. You’ll get that same sleekness without compromising your natural texture.

Oribe

Curl Gelée

This gel is perfect for those who want to make a statement. It contains a combination of Murumuru, avocado butter and mango seed butter. These butters and oils leave hair slick and shiny—without looking greasy, weighing hair down, or straightening out your curls.

7. Long Lengths

Just because short cuts are in doesn’t mean everyone is forgoing their long, luscious locks. Curls can do anything, long or short, with layers or without. A long, straight haircut will allow your curls to shine. A layered cut frames your face while adding dimension and body (like the one above).

Long lengths require lots of drying time, so you’ll likely rely on a good blow dryer with a diffuser attachment to get you out the door quicker. To revive your curls, you can invest in a product to prevent washing your hair too often.

Conair

Conair Hair Dryer InfinitiPRO

This blow dryer is designed to quickly dry your hair using an infrared heat motor that is gentle on your hair.

Bumble and Bumble

Curl Reactivator

This moisturizing spray will make your curls look more “blah” than they are. Oomph you’re looking for. It moisturizes, adds texture, and reduces frizz to revive curls in just few spritzes.

8. Lob

Hair at this length is bouncy and fun, but if you want to keep your curls smooth and frizz-free, you’ll need to make sure to step up your moisture game. If you wash your hair only once a week, a deep conditioner is essential. Your hair is literally a sponge while it’s wet, so you want to add as much moisture as you can before hitting it with a blow dryer or waiting while it air dries. Apply a moisturizing leave in from the scalp to the ends after you have deep condition your hair.

Sienna Naturals

Plant Power Protein & Moisture Repair Hair Mask

This vegan hair mask uses pea protein, which moisturizes, strengthens, and prevents damage. It can be used on any hair texture, color-treated hair and even relaxed hair. However, it shines (literally!) on extra-dry hair. It makes hair feel soft, hydrated, and strong.

CURLS

Blueberry Bliss Reparative Leaf In Conditioner

Ulta has received over 490 five-star reviews. It’s hard to believe that there’s magic in this product. One person even said that they have tried other leave in sprays to help with this problem, but none of them compare to this gift from God. It doesn’t weigh my hair down at all. I can use a lot and still get enough moisture without my hair becoming dry and lifeless. It’s also very affordable at $15 and comes in a blueberry Jolly Rancher fragrance.
