We Tried Everything From Tower 28, Heres What’s Worth It

New products are constantly being launched to address all skin concerns in today’s beauty market. Eczema-prone skin remains a neglected area despite the vast array of products. Tower 28 can help change that. 

Amy Liu, founder, founded the brand after many years of working on the marketing side for iconic brands like Kate Sommerville and Smashbox. While she loved the brands that she worked with, she was unable to enjoy the new products without her eczema. She found that “natural” products, which are often marketed as better for sensitive skin, were still irritating. Although clinical brands were effective, they did not provide the joy and fun she desired from her products. Tower 28 was created in 2019 as an affordable, fun option for sensitive skin with eczema. It has a California-inspired, easygoing vibe. 

The brand is now available at Sephora and is loved on TikTok. It remains the only makeup brand that 100% follows the guidelines of the National Eczema Association. The range is small but mighty, with two skin-care products and five makeup products—though most are a hybrid of the two—all with a cult following. Each product will bring you one step closer towards glowing, sun-kissed surf-girl skin (hence its brand name, which refers the Santa Monica Lifeguard Tower at the border of Santa Monica Beach and Venice Beach).

“I hope that customers with sensitive skin feel confident in coming to us and trying our products,” Liu tells Glamour. “Having suffered with unreliable skin myself, I know how important it is to have a brand that you can really count on. I was always cautious about trying new products and would frantically scan through ingredient lists to find out what the results were. I want Tower 28 to be a place where people like me know that its okay to be sensitive.”

Liu’s wish was fulfilled after Tower 28’s phenomenal success. The brand is available at Sephora and Credo. Both the blushes as well as lip jellies have gone viral via TikTok. It has also won numerous beauty awards (including Glamour‘s!)

“Looking back over the last three years since we launched, I have so much to be proud of,” says Liu. “A major ‘pinch-me’ moment was seeing our products on the shelf at Sephora—and even though that first launch was a couple years ago, it still doesn’t get old. I am also so proud of the team we’ve built, and the relationship we all have. After working for many different brands over the years, I know how crucial it is to work with people you both like and respect, and I truly feel inspired by our small but mighty team every single day.”
