The NAACP Image Awards, which honored the achievements of Black entertainers over the past year, were held in full swing on February 26.
Hudson was nominated for Outstanding Actress In a Motion Picture, but she also won the award for Aretha Franklin’s portrayal. RespectHe was awarded Entertainer of Year, the highest honor of the night. Prince Harry and Meghan markle were also present to receive the President’s Award. It has previously been presented at influential figures like Condoleezza rice, LeBron James and Rihanna.
“It’s inspiring to think about the legacy of the Image Awards, which began shortly after the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 were passed into law,” the Duchess Sussex said. “Today, we can continue that legacy by re-establishing federal voting protections in our country and fulfilling the work of civil rights giants, like the late John Lewis.”
She said, “We are so humbled to be here with so many illustrious awardsees.”
