Since its launch in October 2020 Emily in ParisMany people have admitted to hate-watching the show, and it has become polarizing.

“We never represented it as anything other than what it was going to be,” Collins told Glamour. “And we didn’t know the world would be in the state that it was in when it came out. People shared that they were smiling and laughing for the first time in a while. They said that it reminded them what fun feels like. We were able offer some escapism, romanticism, and travel. I was so proud. It was something I didn’t expect to suddenly become a cause for concern. [about].”

She continued, “And we do poke fun at America too. Emily is just as willing to mention things about where she’s from, and they joke about her as much as things are joked about her coworkers or the way of life there. So when it was little things about deep-dish or that I had messed up from my age, I laughed about it. I messed up, I’m so sorry. I know that in this industry, having been in it, having grown up in it, you know that not everyone’s going to love what you do all the time.”

Emily in ParisSeason 2 is available now on Netflix.
