Lady Gaga, the human generator memes, GIFs soundbites and visual treats. This was supposed to have been a Gaga year. A Gaga awards cycle. A Gaga Oscar night. Gaga’s second Oscar season was supposed to be launched by her performance as Patrizia in House of Gucci, a triumphant sequel to her brilliant year as a nominee. A Star is Born. The movie was supposed to be couture awards bait—directed by Ridley Scott, co-starring Adam Driver and Jared Leto, sort of historical, enthusiastically European. The film was instead nominated only for the Academy Award for best make-up and hairstyling. (The Eyes of Tammy Faye won instead.)
Lady Gaga vanished from the awards press cycle just as things were about getting better. She was able to reveal that she got so lost in her character’s darkness, that she hired a psychiatrist nurse to be on set with her. She was too busy to show off all the ridiculous and gorgeous style choices that could have been made for this press cycle.
It’s a satisfying conclusion to her appearance in the final seconds 2022 Oscars. Lady Gaga’s year is back, and with it, many memorable looks.
