Brooke Shields Drops Her Skin-Care Routine

0 232

The snow is falling outside Brooke Shields’s home in the Hamptons when the actor-model-entrepreneur calls me on a recent weekday afternoon. She is wondering how she will get back to the city, but at the same moment, she seems to be enjoying the opportunity to just sit and enjoy the beauty of her surroundings.

Shields is keen to acknowledge her privilege, regardless of whether it’s her career or her body. The 56-year old is excited about the year ahead, despite being in the public eye since her teens.

Why? Shields founded Beginning Is Now last year, a global community for women who are looking for their second, third or fourth act in life. “So many women that I know are pivoting in the most unbelievable way—starting careers, starting businesses, quitting their job, or just learning skills,” she tells Glamour. “They’ve had families, they’ve had their jobs, and they sort of say, ‘Okay, what’s next?’” Shields calls it a 360-degree well-being brand, with well-being as the destination and wellness as the path to get there.

The marriage of Brooke and True Botanicals was an easy decision. While teenage Brooke was obsessed with makeup and skin care (“My mom worked at the makeup counter at a department store, so I became so interested in everything from eye creams to masks to facials,” she says), she also learned that a simple but consistent routine is best.

“We don’t really think of our skin as an organ, but it is the largest organ of the body,” she says. “So as I got older, I started enjoying the ritual or the idea that it’s not a chore to take care of your skin…it’s a privilege. It doesn’t need to take 20 minutes. It can be seven minutes.”

Thanks to a combination o professional treatments and tried and true products, she has learned how to keep her skin looking its best while still enjoying the privilege of ageing.

For that reason, GlamourDrop the Routine, the star in the Netflix Christmas movie, is the latest episode. Christmas in a CastleWe are given details about the doctors she sees and the products she uses.

My treatments

Dr. Liz Hale treats sun damage and sun spot treatments, such as Fraxel. Dr. Macrene Alexiades is my primary doctor for treatments such as the Genesis treatment and peels. I don’t want to experience pain or downtime. Macrene has a very powerful laser treatment that removes a tattoo that I have. But I don’t want to change the shape or appearance of my face. I just want my skin to be the best it can be. I have lines around the corners of my mouth, but I can make them look better.

My cleanser

True Botanicals Ginger Turmeric Cleaning Balm dissolves all. You don’t need soap. I wash my face only at night. I will wash my face with water and apply a mask if I have the time.

My vitamin C

All of us have sun spots or age spots. So I started using True Botanicals Vitamin C Supplement, which is a powder. I will apply a concentrated amount of the powder, which is like a paste, to the dark spots at night. It will lighten over time. It remains potent until the very last minute. It loses its potency if it is a liquid.

My moisturizing cream

True Botanicals Chebula Extreme Cream was just launched earlier in the year. It doesn’t contain any wax. It doesn’t contain any petroleum, but it does have the richness. It smells amazing. It does reduce the appearance fine lines and dehydrated skin.

My serum

Chebula Active Serum by True Botanicals. I mix it with the vitamin-C booster, which dissolves well into the serum. You can also use it in oils, but I prefer to apply it first in my skin care routine.

My face oil

True Botanicals Renew Pureradiance Oil I was always afraid that oil would make my skin greasy. My skin absorbs oil immediately and feels more moisturized.

My eye cream

True Botanicals Radiance Eye Cream is my favorite. It’s so rich that I use it every morning. I warm it first with my fingertips. Sometimes I’ll use a tool from the freezer to rub the cream around my eyes. The cream’s coolness and cooling properties really help to reduce the fine lines around my eyes. It also helps reduce puffiness when I travel.

My lip balm

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask. I have the original berry version. It’s so moisturizing and delicious.

My face was cloudy

Tata Harper Hydrating Hyaluronic Acid Floral Essence. This brand was among the first to provide truly clean beauty. The mist is a wake-up call for your complexion. Plus, the packaging is so pretty…those glass bottles.

My hand/body lotion

COVID was when I began using Long Island Livestock Company products. Their Shepherdess Body Butter Honey Almond is thick and made with pure lanolin. I was washing my hands so much and sanitizing too often that my skin became so dry. I then started using this every single day to save my skin. I put it on before I go to bed and sometimes use the white museum gloves. I look like a crazy person. [Laughs.]My husband is going to divorce me, but I know my hands will be happy.

My sunscreen

Supergoop just became my new favorite product! Glow Screen SPF40. It’s really glowy.

My lash serum

GrandeLash Enhancing Gel is what I use to grow my eyelashes. They are a wonderful company.
