Billie Eilish Was Secretly a Redhead for a Week

Billie Eilish continues to experiment with her hair color.

After transitioning her longtime black hair with green roots to platinum blonde—which took six weeks to accomplish—it seemed Eilish decided to go straight for brunette when she debuted her deep chocolate fringed bob back in December 2021. However, it turns out the “Ocean Eyes” singer took a pit stop in the land of auburn hair in November for a week without showing fans…until now.

Eilish asked fans to choose random dates between 2021 to post photos and videos on Instagram Stories in the early hours of January 3. One fan chose November 22 and Eilish revealed that she had secretly gone red for a short time.

“Took the blonde out and went red for a week hehe,” Eilish wrote on top of the video from the hair salon chair.

Billie Eilish did not explain why she decided to stop wearing the red after a week. Maybe it was the way the dye affected her platinum hair as she went from light to dark. Perhaps she didn’t like the auburn look.

Whatever the reason, she has often spoken about her love for changing things. “I’ve had different-colored hair and vibes for everything I’ve ever done. I wanted [Happier Than Ever] to have its own thing,” Eilish told ElleSeptember 2021. “The other day, I posted a video from when I had green hair, and I saw people go, ‘I miss this Billie, the green-haired Billie.’ I’m still the same person.”

The change from bright to blonde was not without its practicalities, but it was heartbreaking. “I couldn’t go anywhere with that hair because it was so obviously me. I wanted anonymity,” Eilish also told Elle. There was more freedom after becoming platinum. “I went to a park with a friend, and I was like, ‘No, I can’t take off my hood!’” she continued. “I was terrified of the paparazzi and these stalkers I’ve had. But my friend was like, ‘Don’t worry: You’re okay. Nothing’s gonna happen.’ And I took my hood off, and I felt like a new person.”
