It’s still early days, but there is plenty of evidence: The romantic ribbon is 2022’s most sought-after hair accessory. We began the week with Selena Gomez’s bowed bun and Hoyeon Jung’s beribboned braid at Sunday’s SAG Awards, and now those looks have been joined by Anya Taylor-Joy’s ribbon headband, donned for a front-row viewing of Dior’s fall 2022 show in Paris.
Gregory Russell, a hairstylist added subtle glamour to the actress’s blonde peroxide blonde. He added a thick black ribbon to her side part. Valeria Ferreira, makeup artist, applied a subtle gaze-encasing application of apricot eyeshadow to Taylor-Joy’s dark sequined dress. The lashes were accentuated by the retro-inspired look with black lashes.
Markarian’s spring 2022 show gave us hints at this emerging trend. Models wore bows made from the same fabric that their dresses, and Markarian was there to help them. Then, in classic Chanel fashion, the house’s Métiers d’Art collection came with a wealth of artfully placed black bows, while Giambattista Valli’s pre-fall presentation featured a more idiosyncratic take, black bows secured upside down at the crown and in great number throughout a given updo.
